New development agenda must be disability-inclusive
Reaffirming the international community’s resolve in advancing the rights of persons with disabilities, the High-level Meeting on Disability and Development on 23 September adopted an agreed outcome stressing the need to ensure accessibility for and inclusion of persons with disabilities in all aspects of development and offering them consideration in the post-2015 UN development agenda. The outcome document underlined urgent action by all relevant stakeholders towards adoption and implementation of disability-inclusive national development strategies with disability-targeted actions, backed by international cooperation and support. There are more than 1 billion people living with some form of disability. 80% are of working age and the majority live in developing countries.
