General Assembly President launches initiative for post-2015 development agenda
General Assembly President John Ashe launched a major effort on 6 February to harness the support of civil society organizations to help formulate a new development agenda with the potential to eradicate poverty in the decades to come.

"The task of addressing the unfinished business of the Millennium Development Goals and transitioning toward a universal post-2015 development agenda is so fundamentally important and far-reaching that it requires the efforts of all stakeholders in government, business and society," Mr. Ashe said during an interactive briefing of global civil society representatives at United Nations Headquarters in New York.

Civil society representatives gave input on the three high-level events and three thematic debates the General Assembly President will host this year as a contribution to the post-2015 development agenda
