19 - 21 April: Special Session of the General Assembly on the World Drug Problem (UNGASS 2016)
The General Assembly, in its resolution 70/181 of 17 December 2015, decided that the special session of the General Assembly on the world drug problem shall be convened for three days, from 19 to 21 April 2016, at United Nations Headquarters in New York, following the fifty-ninth session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs, scheduled to be held in March 2016.

Furthermore, the General Assembly decided that representatives of non-governmental organizations in consultative status with ECOSOC are invited to participate in the special session and representatives of civil society and the scientific community, academia, youth groups and other relevant stakeholders may participate in the special session, in accordance with the rules of procedure and established practice of the General Assembly.

Registration for the 19-21 April Special Session of the General Assembly on the World Drug Problem (UNGASS 2016) is now closed.

Further to the information briefing held on 11 April by the Office of the President of the General Assembly and instructions from the United Nations Safety and Security Service, please note the following important update for civil society representatives pre-registered to attend the Special Session of the General Assembly on the World Drug Problem (UNGASS 2016).

ECOSOC accredited NGOs
Representatives of NGOs in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council who have a valid UN grounds pass DO NOT require a Special Event Pass to access the UN compound on 18, 19 or 20 April 2016.

Due to enhanced security procedures, representatives of NGOs in consultative status with ECOSOC, including those with a valid UN grounds pass, DO require a Special Event Pass only on 21 April 2016.

Non-accredited NGOs
Representatives of NGOS that are not in consultative status with the ECOSOC and who have pre-registered, require a Special Event Pass for the entire period of the UNGASS, 19-21 April 2016.

Instructions on picking up Special Event Passes have been provided to civil society representatives who have confirmed interest in attending UNGASS 2016.
