5 - 7 July: Eighth Session of the Open-ended Working Group on Ageing
The Eighth Working Session of the Open-ended Working Group (OEWG) on Ageing will be held from 5 to 7 July 2017 in Conference Room 4 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The session will feature two panel discussions focused on the areas of (1) equality and non-discrimination, and (2) violence, neglect and abuse. Among the speakers will be Rosita Kornfeld-Matte, the Independent Expert on the enjoyment of all human rights by older persons; Marķa Soledad Cisternas Reyes, Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General on Disability and Accessibility and former Chairperson of the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities; and Kay Patterson, Age Discrimination Commissioner, Australian Human Rights Commission. NGOs in consultative status with ECOSOC or accredited to the OEWG will join the session. Representatives of National Human Rights Institutions will also participate in this session, marking the first time that their participation is permitted in the work of a UN intergovernmental body apart from the Human Rights Council.
